GREENMAX has perfectly combined EPS recycling with AI technology - efficient recycling of EPS waste

Several million tons of plastic end up in the oceans every year. The pollution of the environment in countries where no functioning waste management systems are established also creates massive problems worldwide on land. The Alliance to End Plastic Waste has set itself the task of tackling the plastic waste problem.

The project's goal is to locate different hotspots for expanded polystyrene (EPS, or Styrofoam), which is mostly produced in the Brittany region by local merchants and fishmongers. Since EPS has a high density and is extremely light, a mobile press was created to gather it, compress it into bales, and then prepare it for recycling and reselling.

The project employs artificial intelligence (AI), computer vision, and big data management to improve the quality of waste sorting in Belgium. In order to accomplish this, a garbage truck's rear is equipped with a highly sensitive camera that can identify the various waste types in real time while the garbage is being unloaded. The underlying algorithm can learn on its own after being taught on the garbage. Through the project, recyclable materials can be found, kept out of the incinerator, and used to support a circular economy.

The application of artificial intelligence is very popular in various fields, and the design and manufacturing of the GREENMAX EPS recycling machine also incorporates innovative skills, such as the touch screen and high-tech control system on the equipment, as well as the two working modes of the cold press equipment: time mode and power mode, all of which are realized through artificial intelligence. Additionally, many equipment controls utilize a central control system to achieve intelligent equipment. In the EPS recycling process, it is essential to choose the appropriate recycling equipment.

GREENMAX recycling equipment not only has high-tech features but also boasts impressive recycling results. The compactor ratio of the GREENMAX EPS recycling machine can reach a maximum of 90:1, which is very high and is one of the most noteworthy aspects during the recycling process, as the compression ratio directly affects transportation costs, which is also a key consideration for factories during recycling.
